What is athletic therapy?
Athletic Therapy specializes in the prevention, assessment, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. Using a combination of hands-on techniques and therapeutic exercise, Athletic Therapists help manage pain, restore movement and strength, and prevent future injuries.
Certified Athletic Therapists follow the Sports Medicine Model of care, working with clients to move better, recover confidently, and return to the activities they love.
Your first appointment
Your initial assessment is 60 minutes. Your therapist reviews your injury history and goals, assesses how you move, and explains what they find. You leave with hands-on treatment and a clear exercise plan built around your schedule.
Follow-up visits focus on progressing that plan — adding strength, mobility, and sport- or task-specific work as you recover.

Athletic Therapy FAQs
Both treat musculoskeletal injuries. Athletic therapists are trained specifically in the Sports Medicine Model, with a strong focus on active rehabilitation, exercise, and return to activity for people of every fitness level — not only athletes.
No referral is needed to book. Some insurance plans ask for a physician’s note before they reimburse, so check your plan if you intend to claim.
Many extended health plans include athletic therapy by a Certified Athletic Therapist, but coverage varies. Check your plan before your visit.
